STATEMENT
My functional objects are designed with a focus on utility. I use clean lines, repetition, and geometry to accentuate functional forms that have a symbiotic relationship with their surfaces. Utilizing the water etching process to create levels of texture, I align the shape of my objects with designs that are meant to embrace the nuances of well-crafted and stylized utilitarian craft objects. This erosion of the clay through process creates levels of surface that are revealed and accentuated. These levels of surface ultimately dictate the shape of the form itself and provides for a tactile experience. The relationship between surface and form is important in linking the levels of geometry to create a sense of harmony in the work.
My work strives to make an aesthetic impression as well as a literal one in the life of its user. Daily interactions with objects are directly connected to life experiences in the intimate relationship between object and user. As a consummate maker, I embrace labor-intensive processes and the nuances of material to infuse the user of my utilitarian objects with an appreciation for the human hand and its potential to connect us to each other.
